SPONSORSHIP OF 'ARIFA' FROM JAGANNATHPUR, BANGLADESH

Progress updates are received on Arifa's community programme and photos of her with her parents. Arifa has started school and has now reached her ninth birthday on 6th June 2006. As she is muslim and celebrates Eid BritBangla hope to send a pair of flip flop, colour crayons or school bag as expensive gifts are not allowed in order not to alienate the child from the other children.

Photos below click here.

From the report received in April 2006 she is in good health and is attending primary school so she is in her first grade. Arifa enjoys mathematics, English and local language. Her performance at school has been average. She walks to school which takes 30 minutes to get there.

Arifa's family are poor and have enough water during the rainy and dry season and also the water is not safe to drink due to lack of appropriate treatment. Plus they have to use the open fields for toilet facilities.

The donation help to support her community development improvements long term and the resources required including staff support.

Please do write to Arifa as she is your sponsored child and you can write to her family. BritBangla support her on your behalf by donating a monthly amount.
It is a way for us to understand life in a rural community in Bangladesh and an opportunity to help a community to develop a better life for themselves.

Introducing Arifa:
Arifa is a friendly girl whose favourite game include playing with dolls, playing with cars and playing local games. Her mother tells Em Dad, Plan member staff, that Arifa always says that when she is older she would like to be a teacher. In this part of the world children grow up fast and all must play a part in the family’s progress and survival. Although they still have time to play they must also help with the daily chores. Arifa helps to take care of younger siblings.
She spends most of her time with Sharifa and Sarmin who are her best friends.

Plan is hopeful that Arifa would be able to write to BritBangla or send a message after achieving full confidence. They are keen to learn more about us and the country in which we live in. Although children in this community are very shy about writing to someone in a different country Plan will encourage her to communicate with BritBangla in her own personal way. Perhaps through a small drawing. It is very exciting for Arifa to receive a letter or a photograph from a friend abroad. Plan have seen the wide smiles which this can bring to a child’s face!
